The Thyroid–Gallbladder Connection You’ve Never Been Told About

Joel Radley

First, you get diagnosed with low thyroid.
Fatigue, weight gain, dry skin, brain fog, maybe even digestive issues. You’re told it’s all related to hypothyroidism, so you take your meds or try the supplements… and hope for the best.

But what most people don’t get told is that the thyroid and the gallbladder are deeply connected.

And if bile isn’t flowing well, you’re in for a whole host of other issues, especially if you’re already prone to sluggish digestion.

What about the Gallbladder?

Godo question, Next, your gallbladder starts struggling too.
Here’s what’s actually happening:

Over time, this forms sludge… then gallstones.

T4 (your thyroid hormone) helps relax the sphincter of Oddi, the tiny muscle that lets bile flow from your gallbladder to your small intestine.

If there’s not enough T4, that muscle stays tight. Bile builds up.

What if I am just borderline? My doctor said its just slightly under-active or just about in range to be reviews?

Even “borderline” thyroid function can make you more likely to develop stones. If you’ve been diagnosed with gallstones, your thyroid needs to be checked,TSH, T3, T4 and antibodies.

What people tend to do?

Then, you start chasing symptoms instead of the root cause.
Bloating, pain, trouble digesting fats, constipation… you start treating digestion but don’t see lasting results. Because what’s really going on is your thyroid isn’t working properly,so your bile, liver, and gallbladder can’t either.

What to do?

  • Test your full thyroid panel, including antibodies, Total T4 & T3, rT3 not just TSH & T4
  • Support bile flow with liver-friendly foods like beetroot, lemon, globe artichoke, and turmeric.
  • Focus on real, unprocessed food, good fats, protein, and digestible veggies.
  • Use herbal teas or tinctures that stimulate bile production, ginger is an all round classic
  • And manage stress, it’s a major player in both thyroid and digestive dysfunction.
  • Consider EFT
